Swap-O-Matic

O Swap-O-Matic é um projecto de design sustentável: em parte uma instalação artística, é ao mesmo tempo um protótipo funcional de uma espécie de máquina de venda automática mas com o objectivo de trocar coisas usadas.

“The Swap-O-Matic will reside in a public/private space, such as an apartment building, office, or dormitory, where it may be exposed to a contained community that pass by frequently.

In addition to the construction of the machine, the project will include a system of trade by which the machine and its participants operate. The first and foremost goal will be to create a set of rules for the interaction, supporting the self-sustained and un-mediated system. Success will ultimately be measured when the users become so entirely involved in the system, that it becomes the primary source for acquisition of necessary and only truly necessary things. This realization and shift in behavior will slowly change the users’ perception of material possessions in their life, encourage them to evaluate need more carefully, and to be comfortable with efficiently reusing items…”

Um projecto de Lina Fenequito, o protótipo está actualmente no Lower East Side Girls Club, em Nova York.
